In March 1886, the “new” Kansas City, Kansas, was formed through the consolidation of five area municipalities. This was done by consolidating the “old” Kansas City, Armstrong, Armourdale, Riverview and Wyandotte.
The oldest city of the group was Wyandotte, which was formed in 1857 by Wyandot Native Americans and Methodist missionaries. In 1997, voters approved a county-wide proposition to unify the city and county governments creating the Unified Government of Wyandotte County.
Kansas City is the home to the General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant, which manufactures the Chevrolet Malibu and the Cadillac XT4. In addition, Associated Wholesale Grocers and Kansas City Steak Company are based within the city. The largest employer is the University of Kansas Hospital.
The City of Kansas City embraces cultural equality, diversity, inclusion, equity and has many historic business-friendly communities. Georgia is rolling out the “Welcome to Kansas City” Kansas welcome mat to new local entrepreneurs, new startups, business founders, new residents and more local value-added businesses.
In the spirit of early settlers and business leaders, Kansas City entrepreneurs have created local business opportunities for future entrepreneurs in the area. With the help of local business leaders, the demand for startup ventures and the need for more goods and services has ignited the spirit of business ownership in local Kansas City communities.
